Dental technology is a versatile and multi-faceted trade. A vast choice of materials is available, depending on the specific clinical case or production method. Located in the city of Dornbirn in the Austrian state of Vorarlberg, Wohlgenannt Zahntechnik OG has been in business for over 40 years. Since 2002, Carola Wohlgenannt has run the laboratory together with her husband Christoph Wohlgenannt and her sister-in-law Doris Kuster-Wohlgenannt. Carola is the ceramist of the lab. She also teaches courses on all-ceramics and she is a frequent user of IPS e.max. In collaboration with Ivoclar Vivadent, she has prepared a Special Edition entirely dedicated to the metal-ceramic system IPS Style.

Different routes to esthetics

Metal-ceramic users swear by their metal-ceramic materials. All-ceramic users take pride in the restorations they have created using materials such as IPS e.max. As a dedicated ceramist, Carola Wohlgenannt embodies a passion for both materials. For her, each of them has its purpose. The result is what really matters and that is to achieve a perfect solution for any given case. Knowledge about the possible uses and esthetic outcome of the individual materials is particularly important in this respect.

Conventional craftsmanship vs CAD/CAM

In her Special Edition, Carola Wohlgenannt shows how to create veneers on refractory dies using IPS Style – a supreme discipline. The outcome can only be assessed once the veneer is placed in the patient’s mouth. It requires a great amount of experience and skill to ensure that the shade and shape of the veneer accurately fit the requirements of the patient. The cases presented in the magazine highlight yet again the important position that conventional dental technology will continue to hold alongside CAD/CAM and digital dental technology. The team working at the Wohlgenannt laboratory combine innovative production methods and conventional techniques to form a coherent whole.

Veneers made of IPS Style

Carola Wohlgenannt has been working with materials from Ivoclar Vivadent since 2004. She came into contact with IPS Style for the first time as part of a test series shortly before the metal-ceramic was launched. She has never stopped using IPS Style for creating her veneers ever since. She particularly appreciates the brilliance and high strength that IPS Style lends to her restorations. Precision also plays a decisive part in her work. In this respect, the firing stability of the metal-ceramic is paramount. In the anterior region, esthetics is a sensitive topic. This means that every little detail requires careful attention, no matter how minute it may be.

“I prefer materials that offer a myriad of options. IPS e.max® ZirCAD Prime provides me with the freedom I need in my daily work.” - Carola Wohlgenannt
