When customer needs drive innovation

IPS e.max Zirconia sets new standards for zirconium oxide

Schaan, Liechtenstein – 4 May 2026

IPS e.max Zirconia, the latest addition to the IPS e.max family from Ivoclar, is redefining the possibilities for all-ceramic restorations. From the very beginning, Ivoclar involved customers from around the world in the development of the new product, placing their needs for versatility, esthetics, efficiency and reliability at the heart of the material’s design. Dental technicians will be able to use the new zirconium oxide starting May 4.

From the very start, around 40 dental technicians from across the globe were brought into the project, ensuring their feedback shaped the material’s development from an early stage. Their ongoing input helped refine essential material properties, such as shade accuracy, shade progression, strength, surface quality and range of applications.

"The development process was really fascinating. We had the opportunity to exchange ideas and discuss openly, and we all contributed to improve the product. In the end, something truly outstanding emerged. At times, I was quite demanding in my feedback – we all put the material through its paces."

Product features with direct benefits for digital workflows

Never before has a zirconium oxide material offered such a wide range of possibilities. Advanced GTx technology redefines esthetics: An optimized gradient profile delivers lifelike light dynamics, while advances in shading technology ensure maximum shade accuracy – from chairside shade selection through to the final result. IPS e.max Zirconia covers the full spectrum of all-ceramic applications, from thin veneers to wide-span bridges – reducing inventory requirements. The material’s improved microstructure enhances its milling and sintering performance.

The new 4Y-PSZ / 5Y-PSZ powder combination significantly reduces sintering times:

  • 58 minutes for restoration up to three-unit bridges
  • 2 hours and 57 minutes for larger cases up to full arch restorations.

Together with the material’s high accuracy of fit and shade, this boosts lab efficiency while ensuring reliable, esthetic outcomes for patients.

All properties were verified through extensive testing – including 2 million chewing cycles in a chewing simulator under a load of 550 newtons. Only materials that pass these tests are accepted into the IPS e.max family. Because IPS e.max delivers on its promise: All ceramics. All you need.

An unbeatable combination: the “Redefining Package”

The combination of IPS e.max Zirconia and IPS e.max Ceram Art offers laboratories creative freedom, efficiency and high-end esthetics. Coordinated with each other from the development stage, the two products work together seamlessly. IPS e.max is driving innovation in restorative dentistry, shaped by ongoing changes in the dental market and technological advances in restoration manufacturing. IPS e.max Zirconia is a testament to that innovative strength in the field of all-ceramics.

To mark the product launch, Ivoclar is offering both products together in an exclusive duo pack: The “Redefining Package Red & White Estehtics” and the “Redefining Package White Esthetics”.
